It’s time for the semi-annual trek to Orlando for sweat and maybe some cool new gear. Yes, it’s time for InfoComm.

Remember when InfoComm was a small show mostly about digital signage and maybe the odd 70-volt audio system? So, how did it become the de facto trade show for pro audio in the U.S.? And can we possibly make it stop?

It looks like it will be mostly stuff you have already seen or heard about but there are a few exceptions.

The loudspeaker vets behind VUE have something they are calling “beam steering for the rest of us.” It appears to be a software solution that they say can bring steering capabilities to standard line arrays.

Accurate steering of audio is becoming somethinhg of a holy grail for a lot of folks ever since the concept was popularized and refined to a new degree with the Martin MLA. It’s not just VUE, either. EAW will be showing some new install speakers at the show itself, but THursday night they are hosting a party which will be the first place most of us will hear the musch discussed Anya system. People i trust tell me it takes the concept of steering to a whole new level. We’ll see…

One thing we want to see for sure is an new digital mixing system from… wait for it… Crest. All we know is that it is based on the Waves DiGiGrid system that we have been intrigued by since NAMM. Waves software with Crest I/O and touchscreen interface. Stay tuned.

QSC is being very coy. They have a teaser video and the press release just references a “revolutionary new product and technology platform” that “aims to redefine the way integrators and live sound practitioners approach audio systems design and deployment.”

Midas will have the Gen 2 software for the Pro Series. You can see a walkthrough of that here…

And finally, DiGiGo is bringing advanced theatre and broadcast functions to smaller consoles with the release of the SD9B for broadcast and the SD9T and SDTen T for theatrical use. Also , a software upgrade for the SD9 and SD11 that will allow them to run at 96KHz.

We’ll be updating nightly unless there is nothing worth updating or we have other plans after the show…  Bed time for The Rev.  I have a flight in the morning.
