SSE Audio Group has acquired Wigwam Acoustics, creating the largest audio hire, sales and installation group in the UK. The deal is seen as major consolidation in the audio and live event industry. Wigwam’s Mick Spratt and Chris Hill have taken a shareholding in SSE Audio Group, with Mick Spratt joining the SSE board.

The announcement references Wigwam’s touring gigs in the UK but they have also been active in the US in the past having worked in conjunction with Eighth Day Sound on a Coldplay tour and providing support for Muse a few years ago.

This is not the first consolidation move by SSE. In 2008, they bought up a company called Canegreen and have a large French presence via a division called Melpomen. A story on SSE circa 2010 by UK-based writer Paul Watson can be found here.
